The
massive late-2014 cyberattack on Sony Pictures may not be dominating
the headlines as much in the new year, but the company is still
suffering from the fallout.
In a filing to regulators
in Japan, Sony revealed late Thursday that several of Sony Pictures'
critical systems are still offline and won't be restored until early
February.
"Most of SPE's financial and accounting
applications and many other critical information technology applications
will not be functional" until early next month, Sony wrote in the
filing.
That's because the breach caused a serious
"amount of destruction and disruption," and the company is trying to
"avoid further damage by prematurely restarting functions."
Also
in the filing, the company requested that regulators allow Sony to file
its third-quarter financial results on March 31 instead of February 16
as scheduled. Sony blamed the delay on the fallout from the hack but
said the incident isn't expected to have a "material" effect on its
quarterly results.
